Academy Sports

The YMCA of Central Texas Academy Sports program is a competitive/select-level basketball program that provides the next step in a youth player’s developmental pathway. Our program features a professional coaching staff specializing in player and team development, and it competes at a higher level of match play than our recreational league.

Tryouts

Roster spots are limited for Academy teams, as a result, players are selected based on their performances/evaluations by the Academy Coaches at team tryouts. For our Academy Basketball & Academy Soccer program we will have tryouts to fill our rosters for select travel teams.

Signing Day

YMCA CTX Academy signing day is a day designated to celebrating a player’s commitment to one of our Academy teams. Our Academy players receive an official invitation to join a team roster, and we want every player to feel proud of their decision to accept their roster spot and be genuinely excited to join their new team.

Signing day is a fun way to celebrate all the hard work each player has put into developing their craft/skill sets to higher competitive levels. On this day, players will report for official check in, complete their player registration for the upcoming seasonal year, sign their player commitment letter, take pictures with their family, friends, and coaches, and leave the event filled with excitement about their decision.

YMCA Academy’s Mission

Our mission of our YMCA Academy Sports is to provide a high quality, comprehensive Basketball and Soccer experience in a fun-filled environment that is competitive, educational, and challenging in ways that do not compromise our core values or diminish a player’s passion for the game.

YMCA Academy Development Curriculum

Our Academy sports, Basketball and Soccer, will utilize a carefully crafted development curriculum to engage, entertain and educate our players. Our system focuses on developing the 4 pillars of the game: Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Psychological. Through this curriculum, we will diligently strive to forge new competitive pathways for our players through advancing their technical skill sets, developing proper technique, strengthening their confidence, expanding their knowledge of the game, improving speed/fitness/agility, and cultivating critical and creative thinking basketball and soccer players. Our Academy players are asked to become students of the games. We encourage our players to ask questions, complete fun at-home skill mastery assignments, and watch professional games for enjoyment and further understanding of how the game is played.
