Group Swim Lessons

Swim Lessons provide important life skills that could save a life, and will benefit you for a lifetime. Our group swim lessons are 1 instructor to a group of 4-8 kids depending on the class or location. Please check out our different levels (by age/skill) below. We also have a swim assessment that you can take to help determine what class your child should be in. Offered at Burnet, CHASCO, Hutto, Twin Lakes & Waco for ages 6 months and up.

Parent with Child

Water Exploration | STAGES A & B | Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences. Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Ages: 6 months – 3 years

Pre-School | Swim Basics | Stages 1 & 2

Kids learn safe water habits, underwater exploration, how to swim to safety and exit the water. Lessons are a mix of activities, games and drills. Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning benchmark skills.

Ages: 3 – 5 years

Pre-School | Swim Strokes | Stages 3 & 4

Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Ages: 3 – 5 years

School Aged | Swim Basics | Stages 1, 2 & 3

Starting with water safety and basic swimming competency, kids progress to learn about the four competitive swimming strokes. Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning benchmark skills.

Ages: 5 – 12 years

School Aged | Swim Strokes | Stages 4, 5 & 6

Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Ages: 5 – 12 years

Teen / Adult

Teens and adults can begin with water safety and continue on to learn and refine skills in the four competitive swimming strokes.

Ages: 13+ years

Group Swim Lessons 101:

Yes, our swim lessons run year-round, after one session ends the next one begins.  
 
We have a swim assessment tool that you can take for your child, or you can come into the branch and speak with our aquatic directors.
A swim suit, a towel, goggles (if you prefer) and a dry change of clothes. 
 
If your child is to utilize the Aquatics facility after swim lessons, they must be under parental supervision at all times. A swim test wristband is required for any child 12 and under to swim in the pool without a parent within arm’s reach. If you are a YMCA Member, you may stay and use the Aquatics facility, but if you are a Community Member, we ask that you please purchase a day pass from the Member Services desk if you would like to utilize the Aquatics facility after your lesson.
