Teen classes help promote goal achievement, making lasting friendships, and building self-confidence in a supportive environment.
According to the CDC, positive youth development programs are vital for teenagers during their impressionable years. Participation can enhance sense of identity, strengthen belief in the future, and maximize self-regulation and self-efficacy.
At the YMCA of Central Texas, we are dedicated to promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility within our community. Our programs are aimed to help teens reach their fullest potential, maintain active lifestyles, and get involved while building connections and making memories.
Teens n’ Training (TNT) is a fitness program that teaches participants (9-13yrs) the proper use of fitness equipment, proper etiquette, form, and nutrition. Participants learn the roles and importance of health, well-being, and fitness as life skills.
In addition, teenagers gain the confidence necessary to carry out solo exercises using cardio and strength equipment with a supervising adult. Participants who pass the course will be allowed to work out with a parent/guardian on the fitness floor. They must successfully pass the TNT test upon completing their one hour session.
The YMCA offers Babysitting Safety training for teenagers (8-13yrs). Our two-part babysitting course is designed to teach participants the skills needed to become trusted, effective babysitters – and the leadership and job interview skills needed to get started.
This program focuses on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information on the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children and infants.
Once both parts of the course are completed, students will then be tested in order to obtain their certifications. Upon passing the test, participants earn certifications by the Red Cross for Babysitting, First Aid, and CPR!
Teenagers can enjoy the fun of movement and dance, and develop flexibility, coordination, balance, and grace through dance classes at the Y.

The Y offers swim classes for teenagers to begin with water safety and continue on to learn and refine skills in the four competitive swimming strokes.
Swim team options are also available for those who are beyond progressive swim classes yet too young for adult classes.
During summer, holiday, and spring breaks, camp is a powerful experience that can strengthen the values that parents are teaching daily. With many options to choose from, YMCA camps are designed to make summer fun, exciting, convenient, and safe.
There are camps for everyone, no matter your teen’s interests.
