Y Afterschool Activities

Y Afterschool programs strive to help each child reach their full potential by offering a positive and enriching environment that encourages the development of character, leadership, and cooperative spirit. We offer a variety of quiet and high-level activities to keep the days busy and fun. Afterschool at the Y is immersive and helps provide parents with a safe space for their kids to grow.

Physical Activity

Sports and games are organized throughout the day at Y Afterschool that can help get kids moving and active. These activities help develop the child's sense of fair play, teamwork, and physical coordination in a fun and safe environment.

Quiet Time

During a day at the Y Afterschool, we dedicate quiet time for kids to work on homework or read. With dedicated child care providers available, each child will have access to the attention and assistance they may need in order to be successful on their educational journey.

Special Events

No day is ever the same at Y Afterschool. By incorporating a variety of events throughout the program, we can depart from a regular day-to-day routine but still promote leadership, volunteerism, organization, problem solving, and a sense of cooperation among their peers. These events can include dances, outings, talent shows, and community service projects.

Afterschool 101

Y Afterschool is a program provided in collaboration with your school district. We uphold the heritage, tradition and values of the Y throughout our program activities. Our events reflect non-denominational, universal beliefs that transcend all cultures. We consistently demonstrate respect and support for all families, appreciating their right to determine and practice their own beliefs.

The purpose of our afterschool program is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for all children by promoting healthy character development of spirit, mind and body. We work collaboratively with families, communities and school districts to ensure that each child receives a consistent set of life skills for success. To meet these goals, our Y Afterschool program incorporates the five Y Core Values, the 40 Developmental Assets set forth by the Search Institute, and the experiential learning model.

Each of our Y staff is carefully chosen to be positive role models and caring individuals.  Every staff working in our program will attend training seminars which include topics such as leadership skills, positive discipline, creating excitement, learning new games, health & safety, CPR & First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention as well as many others.  Our staff is the key to success and to your child’s happiness. Notably, Texas Health and Human Services licenses Y Afterschool and Preschool at the Y.  All employees are subject to criminal background checks and drug/alcohol testing.  All employees are CPR/First Aid certified and are required to meet Texas Health and Human Services’ Minimum Standards.
